This section contains details of earlier public consultations that the University undertook to help inform its proposals.

On 29th June and 3rd July 2010 local people were invited to find out more about the University of Cambridge’s exciting new plans for their North West Cambridge development.

Local residents, students and people who work in Cambridge were able to talk to members of the project team about all aspects of the plans, which will see the University develop a thriving community of housing, employment and local services to the north west of the city.

The unique, sustainable, mixed-use community is being designed to meet the University’s future research and accommodation needs and will enhance the city’s existing communities by bringing high quality design and a range of new facilities to the area.

This follows on from our highly successful previous public exhibition and planning workshop, held in November 2009 (see below for that event's exhibition boards).

Roger Taylor, North West Cambridge Project Director, said:

“The ideas and feedback the University got at our public events last year was invaluable in helping us shape the plans, and we were delighted by the level of interest the local community showed in the work we are doing.

“As our plans have progressed further we are keen to share once again our thinking with the local community at a public exhibition, and to get feedback and comments again so that we can incorporate them into our proposals.”

Why are we so keen to get your involvement?

View maps, plans and documents that outline the proposals so farThe University of Cambridge is committed to working with our neighbours and local communities to create the best possible extension to our city.

Our development must not only provide for the University’s needs, but also enhance and support existing communities - providing new facilities for people already living in the area as well as for future residents Getting the Master Plan right is the key to creating a new community that works well locally.

The Master Plan needs to be firm in establishing the concept of quality and yet flexible enough to accommodate the development needs of the University over the next 20 years.

That’s why we want your help. As we refine the Master Plan over the following few months we want to hear your views and thoughts.
