In order for Cambridge to retain its status as a ‘world city’ in this respect it is essential that it has the ability to grow and develop to fulfil these criteria.

It is essential for the future of the UK economy that academic and research capability is strong in this country. Often, in the past, people with high quality skills and experience have left the UK to help create technological advances in other countries. The UK needs to have the means to retain those skills and experience for its own economic benefit.

There is therefore a clear expectation on Cambridge to develop further as a world leader in this way whilst protecting its unique historic character and environment.
